Does it get hot? Is it safe for a child?
Does it get hot? Is it safe for a child?
The metal tip heats up to melt the PLA filament, like a small glue gun. That's why the kit includes finger protectors and we recommend it from 6 years old, always with an adult nearby: the first few times, the adult shows where not to touch. PLA is a plant-based plastic, the same one 3D printers use.
Will a 6-year-old know how to use it?
Will a 6-year-old know how to use it?
Yes, with an adult the first few times. They place the transparent sheet over one of the 40 designs in the book and trace it with the pen: the filament hardens in seconds and the figure peels off in one piece. It has a display and 3 speeds; the slow one is ideal to start. Many families say in their reviews that kids get the hang of it on the first afternoon.
Why this kit and not a cheaper one?
Why this kit and not a cheaper one?
Because it isn't just a pen, it's the complete kit: 90 m of filament in 30 colours (most kits come with 3 to 9 m), the 40-design book with transparent sheet (€25, now free), travel case, finger protectors, stand and EU plug, with free tracked shipping and a 30-day guarantee. Everything they need for weeks of creative afternoons, without buying anything else.
What happens when the filament runs out?
What happens when the filament runs out?
The 90 m are enough for lots of figures. When it runs out, any standard 1.75 mm PLA filament works; you'll find it in craft shops and online.
Does it have a battery? How is it powered?
Does it have a battery? How is it powered?
No battery: it works plugged in, with the USB-C cable and the EU plug adapter included in the box (5 V, 2 A). No waiting for it to charge: plug it in, let it heat up and start creating.
